48 Hours in Denver: High Altitude, Higher Standards

Denver at a mile up asks you to slow down. A two-day plan built around RiNo walls, mountain light and one excellent dinner.

RiNo art, a table at Root Down, and a quieter second day at Denver Botanic Gardens.

Make The Ramble Hotel your RiNo base: its official site describes a 50-room boutique hotel in the River North Art District. This is a researched two-day plan, not a report of a personal stay. Keep the first day light and leave room between stops.

Day one: walls and a long lunch

Start with public art in RiNo. The district’s official organization champions artists and creative culture through public art, programming and events; use its website to plan your walk rather than assuming every gallery is open. For your main meal, head to Root Down in the Highlands. Its operator describes globally influenced, seasonal cuisine, using locally farmed, sustainable and organic ingredients as much as possible. Check current service times and reserve directly; lunch is not assumed.

Plan one evening, not two. Denver is best when the second night is left open.

Day two: gardens, then an unhurried evening

Trade the invented foothills trail from our prototype for Denver Botanic Gardens at York Street. The Gardens describes 24 acres of gardens and collections, including plants suited to Colorado’s climate. Check admission and entry times before heading over. Leave the evening open rather than turning two days into a checklist.
